Working as an acupuncturist both privately and for a cancer charity, I have a special interest in supporting those living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis. I have also undertaken specialised post-graduate training in this field.

There is a significant body of research evidence supporting the use of acupuncture to moderate the side effects of cancer treatment. I maintain the highest professional standards of practice and so it can be used safely during and after conventional treatment.

Acupuncture is intended to complement standard medical treatment and is not a curative treatment.

Conventional treatments include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapies and immunotherapy. The most common side-effects from these treatments include:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Hot flushes
  • Insomnia
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Neuropathy
  • Dry mouth
  • Pain
  • Low blood count

A cancer diagnosis affects more than just the physical body. Acupuncture takes an holistic approach; each person is an individual. Treatments focus on the mind, body and spirit, one cannot be separated from the others. Therefore, as well as moderating the side-effects of conventional treatment, I also look to improve general health and emotional well-being. This will help you to feel better and so improve your ability to cope with the effects of your cancer and treatment.

Emma is a kind, caring and professional practitioner. I look forward to my sessions with her and she has worked wonders at alleviating the side effects of my cancer treatment - physical and emotional. I urge anyone going through cancer treatment to see her. - PA, March 2019

Transitioning to a new normal

Many people report feeling abandoned when given the all clear or they feel that they have to just ‘slot back’ into their old life and ways of being. Others have reported that they don’t know quite how they should feel. Acupuncture can be very effective in supporting people to deal with the after effects of cancer and its treatment, both physically and emotionally. By supporting the mind, body and spirit, acupuncture can help the transition to the new normal.
